EXCITEMENT is building in Beragh this week as the build-up continues for what is set to be the biggest night of the year for the village.

‘A Knight of Strictly’ takes place on June 13 in the Mellon Country Hotel. But this weekend, 20 local dancers will learn who they will spend the next 11 weeks paired together with.

The official launch of the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ inspired event takes place this Saturday night in the Beragh GAA club Pavilion, where Angela Reid will offer the dancers the first chance to try out their new partners.

The Fintona country star, who lit up TV screens with performances on TG4’s Glór Tire series, will provide the entertainment for Saturday’s big launch event.

Doors open at 8pm, and those in attendance will be treated to a sneak preview, with the dancers producing a small routine to showcase their training to date.

Organised by Beragh Red Knights and Breacach Handball Club, the designated charity for the event is Care for Cancer.

Beragh GAA club chairman Hugh McNamee said, “The excitement is continuing to build in the parish, with our dedicated dancers already in rehearsal. We are eagerly looking forward to what will be a massive night for the club in June.

“Saturday night’s launch will officially begin the countdown and we look forward to seeing our ten couples together for the first time.

“I would like to thank our main sponsors Capital Reinforcing Ltd (Dermott Owens) and Beragh Credit Union for their support.”

The female dancers taking part are: Caramel Rodgers, Amy Cox, Nuala Donnelly, Orla Daffy, Josephine Grimes, Roisin McSorley, Nuala Kerr, Kathleen O’Neill, Aideen McSorley and Una Franey.

They will be paired off on Saturday night with one of the male dancers: Aiden Donnelly, Sean McMahon, Michael Rodgers, Daniel Sawyers, Peter Donnelly, Barry Devlin, Paddy Grimes, Paul Tallon, Ryan O’Keeffe and Eamon Gorman.
