A MAJOR £600,000 development project is being planned by the Beragh Red Knights GAA club as part of efforts to enhance its facilities for gaelic games and the local community.

Based at St Mary’s Park in the village, the ambitious proposals include an additional handball alley for Brackey Handball club, and a multi-purpose indoor facility capable of accomodating a range of coaching sessions for teams and leisure and recreational activities for people of all ages.
A variety of local community organisations and outside agencies, including Beragh Youth Club, have also signalled their intention to avail of the new ‘communiuty hub’ once it is completed.
The club has just launched a fundraising draw to help raise the money required to complete the project and other sources of funding are also being sought.
Club chairman, Seamus Boyle, unveiled the plans and launched the draw at a special event last week.
He said the need for the facility was clear, adding that it would have immense benefits not only for the Beragh Red Knights and Brackey Handball clubs,  but also the whole community.
“This new facility will incorporate a new handball alley, a substantial sports hall with a viewing area and associated accomodation. It will be utilised by our own club members and we are particularly delighted that Beragh Youth Club have also decided to come on board to avail of what will be a first-class, state-of-the-art facility.
“Another especially important element will be the fact that this new facility is also going to be provide a focal point for improving the health and well-being of the whole community and people of all ages.
“That is why we have already received the support of a whole range of organisations who over the coming years will come to Beragh to deliver recreational activities, education programmes and other events aimed at enhancing the life of our community.
“We have also launched a development draw and ticket sellers will be going around the Beragh area and further afield during the coming weeks and months.”
Anyone who has an interest in helping with selling tickets over the next few months is asked to contact Club Secretary Lisa Rodgers (078 3423 0893) or Gerard Treacy (077 1474 9162) by phone or text.
