Efforts to promote hurling in the Beragh area are being revived this year with coaching at U-10 and U-12 level and participation in the blitzes being organised throughout Tyrone this summer.
Those learning the skills of Ireland's national game in 2006 are carrying on a proud tradition of hurling locally. From the 1960s onwards, players from the club have taken part in competitions within the county at various grades.
It was during the 1980s and 1990s that hurling was put on a more solid footing within the Red Knights club. Teams were fielded at U-14, U-16 and U-18 levels from 1983 to 1991 when important progress was made towards establishing the game.
Throughout that time and during recent years as well, players from the area have represented club and county with distinction. Others have also kept the flame alight with regular recreational puck-arounds at St Mary's Park.
Now a new generation of young people from the parish are getting the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Cuchulainn by learning the skills of hurling.
