Beragh Red Knights Senior Men 2016

THE Beragh seniors will open their Junior Championship campaign tomorrow (Sunday) night when they take on Castlederg. The throw-in at Newtownstewart is 6.30pm.

Both teams have been showing good form in Division Three of the All-County League. As that competition enters its final third, the Red Knights and St Eugene’s are well-placed to secure a place in at least the promotion play-offs.

However, for now, the full focus of the two teams will be on the quest for championship honours. As a result, a good attendance is expected at Newtownstewart.

They have already met in the league, with Castlederg gaining the points thanks to a fairly comfortable win in the early season at St Mary’s Park. However, a good run of form since then means that Beragh will be entering this knock-out clash with confidence and optimism.

It is 29 years since the club last captured the Junior title. In 1988, Hugh McNamee, the current club chairman, was the team captain. A similar success is still a long way off, but recent that recent form for the two teams suggests that a closely fought encounter is guaranteed.

The throw-in again at Newtownstewart is 6.30pm and all support for the Red Knights would be very welcome.
