A few minutes with our valued volunteer Barry Grimes While we are all missing our sport and club life at the moment, we have a number of photographs of our valued volunteers in action, showcasing how much their involvement means to our club and community! We’ve decided to ask a few questions while we are at it. Photos will be posted in a dedicated album in our Gallery so keep an eye out for our much-appreciated club volunteers

Q.What does volunteering mean to you?
Coaching to me is about giving back what was given to me. Men like Paddy Joe McClean, Frank Rodgers, Mick Kerr, Pat McCartan and Brian Donnelly gave up so much of their time to coach me growing up. Everything I learned being part of Beragh Red Knights had such a positive influence on me. I just hope I can pass some of what I learned from so many others, on to the boys and girls who continue to keep BRK at the heart of our community.
Q.What is your highlight of coaching?
Ah the highlight is very easy. Winning the All-Ireland with the Tyrone Ladies in Croke Park in 2018. Oh, there is another special moment from 1999 when I was first involved with the Tyrone Ladies. Standing on the Croke Park pitch watching one of our own club players (Nuala McCartan) lift the All-Ireland Junior cup. That was a very special moment. Caroline Donnelly, Ann Donnelly and Ciara Donnelly were also on that All-Ireland winning squad. Aside from that though it’s just seeing players improving season on season and being the best they can be. From a club perspective, I have watched many of the boys and girls grow up over the years. It’s nice to have been part of their journey, no matter how small. In many ways that’s the best thing about coaching and the greatest achievement.
Thanks Barry!
